Volunteer Oppurtunities

These are some of the volunteer programs we have available. If you are interested in volunteering please contact us, we will be glad to have you help us.

Off-Site Adoption Facilitator

We welcome you to help with our office responsibilities. Volunteers may work with the Lost and Found records by making calls to reunite owners and pets, help with answering the telephone, data entry, or show potential pet owners the many pets available for adoption.

Special Events Volunteer

You may be able to help only a few times a year. Our Vaccination Clinic, and other special events may be just what you would enjoy

This year our Vaccination Clinic is on Sept. 6th from 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM. We will need volunteers for writing certificates, techs to give shots and volunteers to help with crowd control. If you are interested in helping contact our office at 373-1716.

Special Mailings

We need help with our newsletters and other mailings that are sent four to six times a year. Contact the office to get your name on our list of volunteers.

Foster Care Program

Amarillo-Panhandle Humane Society developed this program to save the lives of those pets that are not yet adoptable because of age or minor health concerns. These ‘special needs’ pets may only need foster care for a short time and then be ready for adoption.

During the peak of litter season, spring and summer, the number of neonatal puppies and kittens brought to our facility is alarming! Injured and sick animals are also brought in by Animal Control. Many of these animals just need minor medical attention, TLC and individual care for a short time. Although we know this program cannot save all of these animals, we know we can at least save some of them .With the help of dedicated staff and volunteers, we put this program together. The foster program saves more lives and gives people a new and exciting way to volunteer their time and efforts, while learning more about their Humane Society.

Our Program and How It Works:

Foster care volunteers provide temporary care for animals of a wide range of sizes and ages. Some animals may need fostering for only a few days while others may need months. Your efforts will help prepare the animal for adoption, but more importantly, you may be preventing these animals from being euthanized.

Common reasons for animals to be selected for fostering:

- Puppies and kittens that are less than eight weeks old or under 2 lbs.

- An animal may need treatment or special care. (Mending a broken limb, healing wounds, skin disorders, etc.)

Without foster parents like you, most of these animals would not make it into an adoption program. If you're interested in fostering a pet please contact us and we will be glad to add you to our list .
